2) Katy’s Message:
a) Last week I handed out an abridged version of the piece we commissioned last season, "Invitation." I asked the composer, Chris Byman, to create this version that can be a concert closer for us. The full piece is wonderful, but challenging, so this shorter version will mean we can continue sharing it with our audience at the end of every concert. Thank you to Chris, who donated his time to create this version!
b) I invite you to read through the full text of Leonard's poem, printed in the front, specially written for the piece last year. I think that it really captures why Margaret's Choir exists, and what we do.
c) If you weren't at rehearsal last week, there will be a copy for you at the welcome table with Kerry. You can pick one up, and purchase your concert tickets at the same time!
3) Len’s Message. Busy times and a few comments.
a) Some of you may have noticed that a larger proportion of the repertoire is of music we have recently performed. I think that is my influence, as I had suggested to Katy that because we were so rushed with so much music for the spring, that we could take part of the fall to refine our performance presence on some music to which the basics we already know (Giving us a chance to up our game) and add fewer new pieces. Then use the longer spring season to embrace a new repertoire. Whether this works well or not for the choir, I don’t know, time will tell. But to let you know the temporary shift in emphasis was likely on me.
b) We will end at 4:15 in order to begin our annual business meeting, which should be over by 4:45 at the latest. The reports for that meeting are attached and will only be referenced during the meeting to save time. We have a number of energetic folks in the choir who are spontaneously jumping in to help with various things. If you are one of those, consider nominating yourself for the Dream Team. It is this team that discusses the direction of the choir, as well as ensures all things are looked after, and they seem to do so with a lot of laughter.
