From Katy
a) Happy New Year! Welcome back to choir! I hope that you had a restful summer with some sun and laughter, and that you're ready to sing! I'm looking forward to seeing and hearing everyone when we gather on Sunday afternoon. It's always exciting to get together and sing new music. We have some new songs, some familiar songs, and some old favourites in this season's folder.
b) Sometime this week, or even a few times, I invite you to do a dedicated vocal warm-up, just to dust off the cobwebs a little bit and bring your attention to your singing voice. Start with some nice low breaths, feeling your belly expand with the inhalation. Move on to some easy slides on [z] or [v], moving up and down through your whole range high and low, notice how your air is moving and make sure you have a steady flow of air behind your sound. After that, you can do some easy vocal exercises moving through your range, starting with a hum and eventually adding vowels and consonants. If you're not sure where to start, here is a helpful video: https://youtu.be/jncS5Yceu48?si=6B8ktyDn4AQyewXghis
c) See you Sunday!
Printed Music
Music will be distributed by Kerry and Carol Ann in the foyer.
