New Items from 9th Fall Message
1) Session Oct. 25th Plan
a) Music for Sunday:
i) 1234
ii) I am a Voice That Sings
iii) Midwintersong
iv) We Rise Again
b) We will not take a brief break ½ way through, as we are dividing for sectionals.
c) Music for Soprano/Alto sectional at 4 pm:
i) Bridge Over Troubled Water
ii) This is Me
2) Katy’s message:
a) This week, we will have a sectional for the sopranos and altos from 4:00-4:30. This means that the tenors and basses will be finished at 4:00, but the sopranos and altos will stay to work on some sections of Bridge Over Troubled Water and the opening of This is Me.
b) Continuing my series about each song, this week is "1234" by Feist! Feist was born in Nova Scotia, but grew up in Calgary and Regina. She is a member of the indie band Broken Social Scene, and has released a number of albums on her own as well. She has won 11 Juno Awards, including Single of the Year in 2008 for “1234.” "1234" is a delightful little love song that got its big break when it was featured in an Apple iPod commercial in 2007. Feist also got to sing a special version of this song on Sesame Street, all about counting to Four (search for this on YouTube...it's worth the watch!).
3) Potluck leftovers - Thanks!
Thank you to Debbie, Andrea, Arliss, Pat, Shelly, Sherry Patrick and the many others who prepared, presented and cleaned-up the potluck! It looked pretty smooth and organized, and we were able to relax and enjoy the evening

I'm writing with an invitation to an upcoming concert, if you'd like to share with Margaret's Choir (and anyone else you think might enjoy!): Charmaine & Friends - an evening of chamber music for flutes, strings, and piano featuring Mel Bonis' Septet Fantasia, Mozart's Flute Quartet in D major, and Gaubert's First Sonata for flute and piano. Sunday November 8th, 7pm at St. Andrew's River Heights United Church, reception to follow. Tickets available online and at the door: $25 adult, $10 student, 12 and under free. https://simpli.events/e/charmaine-bacon-flute-concert
6) Message from Len.
a) I was so pleased that Executive Director of Healthy Start, Davorka Monti, spoke to us about the impact the choir might have on their programming. She is an inspiration, and ably led us in Twinkle Twinkle (which you sang so lovingly and so spontaneously)! At times it is you who are the inspiration.
b) In the context of inspired message; I think we sang so willingly and movingly because; one, we associate the song with kind gentle messaging to children, and two, we know not just the first note, but the second third and fourth. I was reminded this week to prepare to sing by knowing not just the first note, but the brief sequence that follows, as that allows me launch into the intended message with intent.
7) Annual Assembly Nov. 1
We will have a brief annual meeting at the end of rehearsal Nov. 1. You will receive a financial report and DT report at that time. We will also welcome nominations from those interested in participating in the Dream Team.
